Mentor Moot Court

Mentor Moot Court, coordinated by Fordham Law School's Moot Court Board, has brought together The Bronx Defenders' staff and students from William H. Taft High School since September 1998. The eight competition participants are typically members of Taft's high school debate team, and several of last year's participants have remained regular visitors to our office, often using our resources to research their debate topics and to ask guidance of our staff. Aside from the structured competitions, our debate-support work has taken place in the informal context of students arriving unannounced to talk with our staff about debate topics or simply for advise about educational or career decisions that they are facing. These projects not only enable our staff to work with young people on debate and argumentation skills, but they also lay the groundwork for strong and substantive friendships that continue to bring young people and our volunteers together even after the competitions. Debaters

Students enjoy an introduction to the rigors of forensic technique, in a mock debate supervised by a Bronx Defenders Debate Mentor.
